“A Journey Well Shared Is a Journey Well Enjoyed.”

Why I decided to share my journey into RC aircraft flying

Rediscovering a Hobby

As mentioned in my last post, I made the decision to return to a hobby I enjoyed as a child. I was instantly filled with nostalgia, thoughts of what things were like over 20 years ago. But then I realised I knew nothing now, not anything that was going to help me anyway. I knew the basic controls, and crashing was easy. That I used to be part of a club. But that was basically it.

20 years is a massive time for things to change. Organisations come and go. Technology comes on leaps and bounds. As it turns out, the legal situation may or may not have changed, and as a result, the landscape of the hobby is very different. This is especially prevalent when you also add in that it is being viewed through the lens of an adult versus a child.

So, as is so often the case these days, I turned to the internet in search of information. Hunting for relevant information that would help me start, places where I could go to find people to speak to. However, I soon realized that finding information about this hobby, specifically in the UK, was not as easy as I’d hoped.

Bridging the Information Gap

Turning to YouTube and Google initially brought up American content, and on face level, a lot of the basic information would be the same. After all, a model plane flies on the same principles wherever you are in the world. However, as I tried to delve further, Information in the UK was either old or nearly non-existent for beginners.

Yes, some content creators were showing what they are currently doing, often advanced builds well out of the price range of a beginner. And note this isn’t to slate these other creators, the advanced parts of the hobby are what attract new people to the hobby (myself included). It just felt like I was standing on one side of a chasm with the rest of the hobby looking back at me from the other side.

Engaging with the Community

Sharing my journey is not just about information dissemination; it’s about engaging with fellow enthusiasts. Through blog posts, videos, and social media, hopefully we can bring more people to the hobby and keep people flying for decades to come. Learning the ropes of RC flying can be daunting, and it’s refreshing to connect with others who share similar interests. Together, we can create a supportive environment that encourages everyone to take to the skies!

So here I am, ready to share my passion and experiences with anyone who’s keen on learning more about flying model RC aircraft right here in the UK. Let’s fly high together!
