A quote attributed to Buddha, but in actuality, the premise behind this community’s existence. This is Wings Reborn UK, a YouTube channel and hopefully community born from an individual’s desire to reconnect with the passions and hobbies of his youth.

As a kid, I spent hours upon hours enthralled by the endless possibilities of aircraft. Living under the flight path of a local airport, according to my parents, my interest was obvious before my first words were spoken, and some of those reportedly included ‘plane’ and a butchered version of the word Concorde, which is only adorable when uttered by an infant. From reading about them, going to air shows, to building “Airfix” model kits and even eventually attempting to learn to fly RC model aircraft, it is safe to say that aircraft were a huge part of my life

Other notable memories include watching RAF Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft on what appeared to be training sorties during a family holiday, Time spent in the RAF cadets, and the devastating news that a RAF careers advisor gave that due to medical reasons, I would never be able to be a pilot within the RAF.

Of course, this did not curtail my interest in aircraft, but as the years rolled on, I found myself growing further and further away from the passion I once held. And that’s how we see ourselves here today. Not being able to remember exactly when I last went to do any of these things I once held so dear.

Today’s fast-paced world has a remarkable way of sweeping us up and washing us downstream if we are not careful. Life can be frantic. Before you know it, years, if not decades, have passed by, and it feels like you’ve barely blinked. I’ve been lucky, I’ve managed to fill my time so far with a lot of experiences. But there is something to be said for taking some time for yourself. Consciously slowing down and taking stock of the things that matter. Or just taking a moment to truly relax.

So that is what this is. Looking both backwards and forwards simultaneously. Reconnecting with the person I once was, in order to give myself time and perspective to observe the world as it passes you by.

Navigating the pitfalls of current government regulation, National Association, and club affiliation. Learning to build, paint, and fly model aircraft, and ultimately seeing where this hobby will take me after probably 20 years away.
